Word of the Day: esoteric:  taught only to a select number, and not intended for the general body of disciples; designed for and understood only by the initiated: said of ideas, doctrines, literature, etc. Though some may think Dante’s Commedia too esoteric to understand, they should know that Dante wrote his poem for the vulgar crowd, specifically to appeal to the understanding of the common man.

TODAY’S EVENTS

Mandatory Debate Club meeting during Activities for all members and prospective members: Wednesday, Mar 5 in S-213, Mr. Dickson’s room.  Bring your schedules through Spring Break, please.

Mu Alpha Theta members who are competing Saturday, March 8 and those interested in the State Competition April 18-20 should attend a meeting during Activities on Wednesday, Mar 5 in B-224.

If you have a love for animals and want to help homeless dogs and cats in the area, come to the first meeting of the Humane Society Club.  It will be held on Wednesday, March 5 in Ms. Sitz’s room U112.  We will be discussing a future drive.  See Max Rogozinski or Spencer Joel if you have any questions.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT

There will be a Chick-fil-a Sale on Thursday, Mar 7 at the flagpole during Activities.  Proceeds will go to Heifer International through the Global Village Club.  Heifer International’s goal is to end world hunger by giving people a means to feed themselves through gifts of livestock and training in environmentally sound agriculture.

Think you are funny? Prove it! Come to Improv Spring Show auditions this Friday, Mar 7 during 4th & 5th periods in Lynch Theater. Please be prompt! If you have any questions, please see Cole Kouvaris, Charlotte Gonwa, or Paige Johnsen.

If you want to wear a T-shirt on the Thursday of Spring Week, you need to purchase one in advance at the Student Store.  The sale ends this Friday, Mar 7. You can pay with cash, check or you can charge it to your student account.

Seniors, if you want to go to Grad Bash you need to purchase your tickets in the Student Store before Friday, Mar 14.  You may only pay with cash or check.  Please turn your permission slips in to Ms. Moyer in B-218 or Mrs. Friedlin in the Student Store. 

The Bolles Middle School Dance team coached by Adriana Stam traveled to Orlando, FL this weekend to compete at the NDA Nationals Championship.  The event is hosted each year with hundreds of teams representing all 50 states in a variety of dance styles.  The team received 2nd place in the Middle School Hip-Hop division and were crowned National Champions in the Jazz division.  Adriana was awarded with a specialty award for “Best Choreography” in the Jazz category as well.  Congratulations for their hard work and achievement at the national level.  Bolles is so proud!

The World Affairs Club will meet Thursday, March 6, after school, in Dr. K’s room B-130.  The topic is South Africa.

Attention Seniors:  If you are eligible for the Bright Futures Scholarship program, please fill out your on-line application by Friday, Mar 14.

Congratulations to the Varsity QUIZ TEAM who placed 2nd out of 19 teams in the Duval County Brain Brawl Competition. Stanton HS won first place. The final matches will be aired on Comcast Channel 14 in the near future. Team members are Faheem Rathore (cpt), Travis Gidado, Jim Trippe, Kristin Drew, Becky Le, Max Foster, Zora Cobb, Benny Menaged, Stefan Paul, Zibran Sarwar and Sunny Chalam.

Art Gallery Reception will be during Activities in the Gooding Gallery on Friday, Mar 7. Come and enjoy the wonderful art and yummy goodies with us!

Did you know that alcohol plays a key role in accidents, homicides and suicides and is the leading causes of death among youth?  Alcohol kills six times more young people than all other illicit drugs combined.  If you would like to help stop underage drinking, come to the Stop Teen Underage Drinking Rally at the Morocco Shrine Temple on Thursday, Mar 20.  For more information, please see Ms. Moyer in B-218.

Any student who had art in the past Art Show will need to come to Mr. Smith’s room to pick it up any work left there. Pleases do so by Friday, Mar 8.

Applications are now available for next year’s Honor Council. Interested students should pick up an application from Mrs. Soud in U-113 or at the switchboard. We are looking for 2 sophomores, 3 juniors and 5 seniors for next year’s council. Any questions please speak to an Honor Council member or Mrs. Soud.

Juniors who have been active in the arts and plan to pursue them in college should come learn how you can present your skills to colleges at the Junior Seminar this Thursday, Mar 6. Note: All junior seminars will be held in McGehee Auditorium during Activities Period.  In addition to the mandatory seminars on April 3, and April 17, juniors must have attended at least 2 of the 4 other sessions by the end of this semester.
