TODAY’S EVENTS

If you are a junior who needs help with your college essay, do not miss this week’s Junior Seminar: How to write a dynamite college essay! The essay can be a pivotal part of your college application – even at UF and FSU and on Thursday, Feb 28, the college counseling staff will walk you through the necessary steps to write a compelling essay.  Note: All junior seminars will be held in McGehee Auditorium during Activities Period.  In addition to the mandatory seminars on April 3, and April 17, juniors must have attended at least 2 of the 4 other sessions by the end of this semester.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT

Do you like nice fresh donuts? Then come to the flagpole during Zero Hour and during Activities on Monday, Mar 3 to buy some delicious donuts. They will be $1.00 each; the money goes towards the Japanese Club’s goal of raising awareness and understanding of the Japanese culture. Enjoy!

Students of German we will be meeting on Friday, Feb 29 during Activities in Frau’s room U-214. We will be discussing our upcoming fundraiser and our trip to convention. Uawohl!

Yummy Baked Sweets will be on sale Friday, Feb 29 during Activities. Please bring pocket cash, you will not regret it! All proceeds go to the March of Dimes!

CLUB MEETINGS/UPCOMING EVENTS

Attention: There will be a children’s book drive for the children of St. Jude Hospital that started Wednesday, Feb 27 and continuous until Friday, March 7. Please bring in new or gently used books and drop them off in the box located in Schultz Hall. Thank you!

Students are reminded that the “Special Events” area located next to the stadium is off limits to students.  While you are welcome to move your vehicles to spaces in Lot A, C, or D after school, no student should be parking in “Special Events” without permission from the Dean’s Office.

Any student interested in information about Federal Financial Aid for college, please see Mr. Mischinski in the Academic Office.

If you would like to be a team leader for one of the four Cystic Fibrosis walks coming up in April or May, please see Ms. Moyer.  Not only is this an excellent organization that will make you feel good about helping out, it is also a way to get many community service hours.

Mandatory Debate Club meeting during Activities for all members and prospective members:  Wednesday, Mar 5 in S-213, Mr. Dickson’s room.  Bring your schedules through Spring Break, please.

Congratulations to the Varsity QUIZ TEAM who have advanced to the Duval County semi-finals beating Mandarin HS yesterday.  The next competition (to be televised) is at the Ritz Theatre on Monday, Mar 3 against Douglas Anderson High School.  Team members are Faheem Rathore, Travis Gidado, Jim Trippe, Kristin Drew, Becky Le, Max Foster, Zora Cobb, Benny Menaged, Stefan Paul, Zibran Sarwar and Sunny Chalam.

Zonta Club of Jacksonville is offering its young Women in Public Affairs Award to a local young woman, age 16 – 20, in recognition of her leadership and volunteerism.  This award is in the amount of $750.  Recipients of this award are encouraged to pursue careers in government, public policy, and community organizations.  Deadline is March 15, 2008.  Information is available in the College Counseling Office.
