Girls’ Golf Coaches
Mark Spencer
Head Coach
Mark Spencer became the Bolles girls’ golf head coach in 2005. Spencer has guided the team to great success during his tenure. The team won three-straight region and district titles from 2006-08, placing fourth, 13th, and fifth, respectively, at the state tournament. In 2005, Spencer led the Lady Bulldogs to a 12th place finish in the state tournament. Bolles also produced the Florida Times-Union’s Girls’ Golf Player-of-the-Year four years in a row: Amelia Lewis from 2006-08 and Courtney Brink in 2005.
Spencer is the Lead Instructor at The Golfplex Academy in Jacksonville.
Spencer has won several local golf events and has been a member of the PGA Cup Matches team. He played in the 2001 USGA Mid-Am in Fresno, California, and has twice advanced through local qualifying for the U.S. Open. His career low round is 64.
Spencer is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he played quarterback at Putnam City North High School. He and his wife, Sheryl, have two sons: Jackson Quarles and Jacob Thomas.
Mark Hoey
Assistant Coach
Mark Hoey joined the Bolles faculty in 2002. He returned to assisting the girls' golf team in 2008 after serving as an assistant in 2005 as well. Hoey also served as Bolles' varsity lacrosse head coach from 2003-07 before becoming head coach of the Bulldogs' middle school program. Hoey teaches mathematics on the Middle School Bartram Campus.
Hoey guided the varsity lacrosse squad to three straight district titles from 2005-07. In 2004, Hoey was one of only 24 high school coaches in the nation chosen to be on the United States Under-19 World Team selection committee. The team went on to win the World Championship in Baltimore. Hoey's previous lacrosse coaching experience includes guiding Team America during the summer of 1996 in Melbourne, Australia, along with stints at a private school in Lewisville, North Carolina, and a boarding school in Connecticut.
Hoey's first coaching job was at his collegiate alma mater—Roger Williams College in Bristol, Rhode Island. As an undergraduate at Roger Williams, Hoey was a four-year starter on the school's lacrosse team, also being named team captain and a First Team All-New England defenseman. Hoey went on to earn a master's degree from Wake Forest University.
Hoey attended Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, Connecticut, where he played football and was captain of the lacrosse team. Hoey and his wife, Jennifer, have a daughter: Kindle.
