Ted Riedeburg

Head Coach

Ted Riedeburg

Ted Riedeburg became head coach of the Bolles rowing program in 2003. He also works as a resident parent in the boys' boarding program and serves as an 11th grade advisor.

Riedeburg served as an assistant coach at Bolles from 2000-03, coaching the varsity men, after a stint in 1998 coaching the novice men. He holds a Level III coaching certification with the United States Rowing Association and is a certified Concept II indoor rowing instructor. Riedeburg's experience also includes training at the Craftsbury Sculling Center in 2007 and serving as an assistant coach with the Northeast Rowing Center in 2005.

As head coach, Riedeburg has seen an increase in participation and enthusiasm in the Bolles rowing program, along with continued success. In the 2007, Riedeburg coached the women's freshman 8 and men's quad to first place finishes among high schools in the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association State Championship Regatta, as well as a third place finish for the women's lightweight 4+. In 2006, Riedeburg coached the men's lightweight 4+ to a third place finish at the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association state championship regatta. In 2005, he led the men's third varsity 4+ to a gold medal and the men's double to a silver medal at the state regatta. In 2004, he guided the men's varsity 8 to first place in the Petit Final at the state championship. In 2003, Riedeburg coached the men's lightweight 4+ to a gold medal at state and the men's youth novice 4+ to bronze at the Head of the Chattahoochee. In 2002, he led the men's lightweight 4+ to silver at the state regatta.

Riedeburg attended SUNY Potsdam from 1991-93 studying music education. He graduated from the University of North Florida in 1996 with a degree in Jazz Studies.

Riedeburg is a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School in New York, where began rowing as a freshman. In his senior year he was voted to the local crew all-star team by area coaches. His crews had success at local and regional regattas, as well as good showings at larger regattas such as the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and the Empire State Games.

Riedeburg has two children: Helena, a member of the class of 2019 at Bolles, and Theo.



Darin Bickle

Darin Bickle

Darin Bickle joined the Bolles rowing staff in 2006. Bickle also currently works with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Prior to Bolles, Bickle served on the rowing staff at Stanton from 1992-2006, working with men's and women's novice through varsity levels. He has guided several state and national championship rowers. Several of his rowers have competed on junior national and national teams, including a gold medalist at the 2000 FISA Junior World Rowing Championships. He helped Stanton to nine-straight high school indoor sprint championships. In 2001, he led the women's varsity 8 to a silver medal at the Scholastic National Championship. In 2000, Bickle guided the women's 8 to the high school championship at the Head of the Charles, as well as the women's 2x and women's junior 4 to scholastic national titles. He coached a FSRA state championship boat in three straight seasons from 1994-96: the women's varsity 8 in 1994 and '95 and women's varsity 4 in '96. Bickle also led the varsity women's 8 to a USRA national championship in 1995.

A 1993 graduate of Jacksonville University with a degree in accounting, Bickle was a four-year varsity rower for JU. He helped the Dolphins to several state championships as well as success at many local and regional regattas including the Head of the Chattahoochee and the Augusta Invitational. Bickle began his rowing career at Melbourne High School in 1988.



Zach Shafer '01

Zach Shafer

Zach Shafer '01 returned to his alma mater in 2005 to serve on the rowing staff. He holds a Level II coaching certification from the United States Rowing Association. In 2007, Shafer guided the men's freshman 8 to a third place finish among high schools at the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association State Championship Regatta.

Shafer graduated from Skidmore College in New York in 2005 with a degree in political science. While at Bolles, he was a four-year member of the Bolles rowing program. He won a state championship as a member of the freshman 8. Shafer went on to earn a bronze medal in the men's varsity 8 in 1999 and a silver medal in the men's varsity 4+ in 2000 at the state regatta.

Shafer is married to a fellow Bolles graduate, the former Jennifer Brown '01.



Kelly Bailey

Kelly Bailey

Kelly Bailey joined the Bolles rowing program in 2005. She holds a Level III coaching certification with the United States Rowing Association and also coached the sport of swimming for 12 years. Bailey currently works as an elementary school art teacher.

Bailey was a member of the Jacksonville University crew, rowing with the freshman novice team. Her freshman 4+ went undefeated until the Dad Vail Regatta, where they placed second. She is a 1996 graduate of First Coast High School where she was a varsity swimmer for four years, a varsity wrestler as a junior and senior, and learned to row with Stanton Crew during her senior year.



Jere Cook

Assistant Coach

Jere Cook

Jere Cook is a competitive rower with single and double sculling awards at the local and national level. From 1997 to 2003, he was on a team to write and evaluate the Y2K U.S. Air Force Fitness Training program. Cook has been an indoor rowing instructor since 1997. He served as a coach for the US Air Force, National Guard Florida Rowing Team from 1996 to 2003. Cook retired from the Air Force as a full Colonel in 2003 following 37 years of service.

Cook holds a master's degree in wellness. His credentials also include certification as a Master Fitness Trainer by the Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research, Personal Trainer and Fitness Counselor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, Concept2 Master Rowing Instructor, Red Cross Instructor for CPR and automated external defibrillator training, and he is American Council on Education certified to grant Continuing Education Units for educational purposes.



Matt Frake

Assistant Coach

Matt Frake joined the Bolles rowing staff in 2007. He holds a Level I coaching certification with the United States Rowing Association.
