Kelly Stevenson

Kelly Stevenson joined the Bolles faculty as a Lower School Whitehurst Campus physical education instructor as well as the upper school girls' varsity basketball head coach in 2006. Stevenson brings a wealth of experience to the School as a successful college coach and player, as well as one of the most heralded high school athletes from the First Coast in recent years.

Stevenson comes to Bolles after a one year stint as the director of women's basketball operations at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, helping the 49ers win the Atlantic 10 Conference title last season. Prior to UNC Charlotte, Stevenson served as an assistant coach at Furman University for the 2004-05 season, helping that program to 18 wins.

Stevenson is a 2004 graduate of the University of Florida, where she earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports sciences. As a member of the Gators women's basketball team, she was a three-time Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll selection and was named to the SEC Good Works team for her community service. As a junior, she was named team tri-captain.

Unfortunately, due to two knee injuries, Stevenson was limited to just two seasons of action on the court for the Gators after transferring from Jacksonville University in 2000. Stevenson was the first-ever player to sign with the JU women's basketball team as the program began its inaugural season in 1999.

Stevenson graduated from Nease High School in 1999, where she guided the Panthers to the Class 5A state title as a senior. She was named Most Valuable Player of the state tournament and to the 5A All-State team that season as well. Stevenson also earned USA Today All-USA Honorable Mention, was named the 1999 Florida Times-Union Player-of-the-Year, and won the “Jasper” award for Amateur Women's Basketball Player of the Year at the Florida Sports Awards joining her Nease teammates as a member of the top Amateur Women's Team.



Kat Sungy

Varsity Assistant Coach

Kat Sungy

Kat Sungy joined the Bolles girls' basketball coaching staff in 2007, joining her former teammate, Kelly Stevenson. Sungy currently works as an operating room nurse at Baptist Medical Center.

Sungy is a 2003 graduate of Jacksonville University, where she was a two-time Atlantic Sun All-Conference selection, a three-time A-Sun Academic All-Conference member, and a two-time captain. She currently holds the JU record for career points, career rebounds, career double-doubles, and most consecutive starts. After graduating from JU, Sungy went on to play professional basketball overseas, signing with the Tolka Rovers of the ESB Irish Women's Superleague.

Sungy is originally from Colorado, where she was a three-year letter winner and two-year starter at Arvada West. She helped her team to finish second in the state tournament, being voted to the All-Conference team and named honorable mention All-State. She was also a three-year starter for the softball team.



Sarah Schaefer

Assistant Coach

Sarah Schaefer joined the Bolles faculty as a math teacher in 2004. She joined the girls' basketball staff in 2006.

Schaefer played basketball at Boston University, battling through two different knee injuries to finish her senior season as a team captain, assists leader, and coaches' award recipient. She earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics with a concentration in education in 1995, and went back to Boston to earn a graduate degree in mathematics education in 1997.

Schaefer grew up in Colts Neck, New Jersey, where she helped lead her high school basketball team to two state championships and a ranking of 16th in the nation by USA Today. Sarah earned MVP and All-State honors in basketball and also played varsity soccer and ran cross-country.

She and her husband, John, have three children at Bolles and spend time coaching them in various sports.



Erin Ward

Junior Varsity Coach

Erin Ward

Erin Ward, a 2002 graduate of Bolles, joined the girls' basketball staff in 2007 as the junior varsity coach. While a student at Bolles, Ward played on the girls' varsity soccer team from 1998-2002. During her freshman year, she received the Kathy Skinner Award for the most athletic female freshman. Ward, as a junior, was voted by her teammates as the team's most valuable player and elected co-captain during her senior year. Due to a significant knee injury, she was unable to compete at the collegiate level.

Ward is very familiar with the Bolles basketball program. Her grandfather, Buddy Ward , coached the Bolles Varsity mens' basketball team for 19 years, winning two consecutive state championship titles in the 1987-88 and 1988-89 seasons.

Ward attended Florida State University, majoring in communications and English. She is currently attending classes at the University of North Florida.
