The Florida Offender Alert System

Bolles is fully committed to the safety and well-being of our students. Our goal is to provide a safe and secure environment, one which reduces the temptations, risks, and obstacles that all students face on a routine basis. To this end, The Bolles School administration and the Bolles Parent Association work together to further educate our parents about national topics of concern for children. Topics such as internet safety, the pressured child, and drug and alcohol awareness are examples of key issues discussed.

Alcohol and drugs are widely and readily available to young people today. The statistics for alcohol alone are heartbreaking: 10.8 million underage drinkers account for over 20 percent of the alcohol purchases in the U.S., with 7.2 million admitting that they have taken part in binge drinking. And over 60 percent of the teens who consume alcohol report that they initially got the alcohol from their own or friends’ homes. At least 18 percent of eighth-graders have used marijuana. Nationally, by the time a teen reaches 17 years of age, 6 out of 7 have friends who use marijuana. As much as we might hope otherwise, our students at Bolles are not exempt from these temptations, or these statistics.

Bolles wants to support students in making good decisions, and for years we have sent out information packets to assist our parents in talking with their child(ren). Now we are saving needed dollars and trees, as you can easily find this important information on our web site. We have had guest speakers on these subjects as well as many others visit our school campuses throughout the year.

This section of the Bolles web site will post any future guest speakers or events. In addition, you will also find a drug and alcohol awareness section as another resource. It is our hope for parents to talk openly to their students about these dangers. It has been clearly established that teenagers whose parents talk to them regularly about the dangers of alcohol and illegal drugs are far less likely to use these substances. Our goal is the lifelong happiness and success of your sons and daughters.
