Resident Ambassador Program
Project LinkUp is a way for our resident students who are new to Jacksonville to experience a “home away from home”.
Bolles feels that knowledge flourishes in a child when they feel secure and comfortable in their surroundings. That is why we strive for our resident accommodations to be home-like and The Parent Association at Bolles provides the LinkUp Program.
The LinkUp Program provides each resident student with a host family. These families invite their resident student or students to their home for dinner, provide cookies or other treats, and generally assist the resident staff in providing a family-like atmosphere for resident students. The program is voluntary, and students have the opportunity to sign up for a LinkUp family at the beginning of each school year.
Suggestions for LinkUp Families
Being a LinkUp family is fun and rewarding. You can make a resident student feel welcome just by baking him or her goodies, or inviting them over for dinner. You can E-mail your resident student or call them to see how their day is going. Here are some suggestions for connecting with your resident student:
Make contact with your LinkUp student a least twice a month, let him or her come over for a dinner or to watch a sporting event. Sometimes the LinkUp student is just looking to get off campus for a bit.
Send them an E-mail or give them a call every once in a while to see how they are doing in their studies. The best time to reach them is usually around 7 p.m. or 9:30 pm.
Contact their parents through E-mail to tell them about your experiences with their child. Just like you would be if you child was studying away from home, they will be thrilled to know another adult is watching over and caring for their child.
If they are involved in a sport or activity, be their cheering squad.
Remember them on the birthday with a simple card or goody bag.
The resident students are very appreciative of anything you can do for them, many of them are a great distance from home and welcome any family-like support you can provide.
All female residents live on the Bartram Campus. All male residents live on the San Jose Campus. You probably will have to provide transportation to and from your home or place of activity for your Link-Up student. Some residents have cars and can transport themselves.
Contact Resident Dean or Evening Duty Staff Member to request to take a student off campus. All residents must sign out with the resident staff on duty before they leave campus. Check with your Link-Up student to make sure that he or she has properly signed out before leaving the dorm.
All residents have curfews. The times vary depending on grade level:
Grades 11-12 —12 a.m.
Grades 9-10 — 11 p.m.
Grades 7-8 — 10 p.m. (Not allowed to ride with other students, parents must drive.)
The resident staff will be flexible with you if you would like to have your Link-Up later than his or her curfew on weekends. However, Sunday through Thursday, we ask that all students be back in the dorm by 7:15 p.m. for mandatory study hall. They are able to earn special privileges if they make honors the first grading period. If they have privileges, their schedule may be less restrictive.
You must get the approval of a resident staff member before you do something out of the ordinary with your Link-Up (such as an out-of-town college football game or deep sea fishing). Some residents have restrictions on their activities.
All residents must get approval from the Resident Dean before any overnight visits. Please call the respective Resident Office to make arrangements.
A convocation dinner for male residents is held on Monday nights at 6 p.m. Link-Up families are encouraged to join the students occasionally for these meals, but please make reservations by contacting the Resident Dean to confirm your attendance. Link-up students may be taken out to dinner any other evening.
A Bartram Family Night Dinner for female residents is held on Monday nights at 6 p.m. Link-Up families are encouraged to join the students occasionally for these meals, but please make reservations by contacting the Resident Dean to confirm your attendance. Link-up students may be taken out to dinner any other evening.
Sunday sign in is 6 p.m.
