Shakespeare Day at Bartram

It was not the typical uniform dress on the middle school Bartram Campus on Thursday, May 6, 2010. It was Shakespeare Day and every eighth grader came to school dressed in the appropriate Renaissance attire. Some were paupers and some were kings, maidens, and queens but they all participated and played their role.

The day is presented by the middle school English Department with some students from Mr. Gieson, Mrs. Castelli, Mr. Creter, and Mrs. Helwig’s classes performing Acts from Romeo and Juliet. Some performed outside on the steps of the Betsy Lovett Arts Center before going into Parker Auditorium for even more performances. Patrick Glover opened the day with a juggling act outside and James Hennessey followed him with reciting a Prologue. Grace Hui performed “What is a Youth” and a group of eighth graders performed “Dance Class” from Mrs. Carney’s class on the stage. Mr. Fritton’s drama class also performed drama skits to complete the fun-filled day. The day allows the students to experience and learn about a different time and, hopefully, learn a little Shakespeare along the way.
