Schwartz ’15 Raises $1,000 for Local School

Bolles middle school student Jake Schwartz ’15 took to the slopes during the spring break in a creative effort to assist a local elementary school’s music program. Holding his own “ski-a-thon”, Schwartz skied over five vertical miles (26,400 vertical feet) in less than five hours while collecting $1,000 for his effort.
Schwartz combined his passion for music and love of skiing for this community service project. He has been playing the acoustic and electric guitar for four years and understands that he is fortunate to be able to enjoy playing music, as well as skiing.
“A lot of kids aren’t as fortunate as I am to be able to own or learn to play an instrument,” Schwartz said. “I also know how lucky I am to be able to go on skiing vacations.”
Schwartz donated the funds he raised to West Jacksonville Elementary School’s music program, to purchase supplies so that other children can find their passion for music as he has done. He presented the check for $1,000 to West Jacksonville Principal Terry Boatman and music teacher Tim DeBorde on May 27.
