PVB Fifth Grade Speech Contest

Ponte Vedra Beach Speech Contest

The annual fifth grade speech contest at the Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus was held Thursday, February 22. The top 13 students from the class were chosen for the contest, judged by Ponte Vedra Recorder writer Erica Opisso, Bolles drama teacher Brooks Meierdierks, and Bolles Senior Director/Communications and Marketing Jan Olson.

First place went to Maddison Inchcombe for her speech, “The Spectacular Bald Eagle”. Inchcombe displayed lots of personality in her speech as she shared how she appreciates the beauty and magnificence of bald eagles after seeing one in her own yard with her father.

Haley Walters earned second place for her speech, “Women Inventors”. Walters' efforts in preparing her speech were evident as she named several objects and necessary items invented by women throughout history.

Kevin Slayden placed third for his speech, “Tiger Woods:  Dominant Athlete”. Without any notes, Slayden shared an exhaustive list of statistics and facts about Tiger Woods, as well as other major sports figures throughout history.

The other top 13 speakers included:
Lauren Quinn- “ Japan versus America ”
Savannah Harris- “Australian Labradoodle”
Christian Kimball- “Got Service?” (volunteers at Daniel and encouraged everyone to volunteer their time with a special organization)
Kasey Schmidt- “Swimming” (loves the sport!)

“This is one of the most difficult jobs I have all year,” commented Olson after the contest.  “All of the students did a fantastic job with their speeches and it was obvious that they had all worked very hard to prepare for the contest.  I wish I could give every one of them a prize!”
