Homecoming 2007

2007 Homecoming

Continuing the School's 75th Anniversary celebration, Bolles 2007 Homecoming was particularly special. To mark the occasion, Homecoming was combined with Reunion Weekend and the reunions included alumni who would normally have gathered last spring and next spring. Students participated in fun activities throughout the week, alumni flocked back to campus, and the varsity football team continued its winning streak. Not even a little stormy weather on Friday could dampen the fun.

Students included an anniversary theme during the week. Each day's theme marked an anniversary tradition. Monday was Bling Day as students wore faux jewelry. Tuesday was Pearl Day as students wore pearls and white clothing. Wednesday' theme was jade with green the color of the day.

Thursday's Denim Day continued a tradition of students not only wearing their favorite pair of jeans, but also supporting a worthy cause. Tying in with National Denim Day, a fundraising effort to support cancer research, the Bolles' Youth Against Cancer club and club president Carly Norton sold special pins and the opportunity to wear jeans for a $5 donation. Bolles students raised $2,086 towards cancer research in the effort. Other clubs held fundraising efforts as well during the week, including Dreams Come True and Senior Women.

Thursday night, a boys' volleyball tournament was held with each grade competing as a team. Members' of the girls' volleyball squad coached the teams and the winner, the seniors, went on to play the faculty in a dodgeball game during the Friday pep rally.

Friday's theme, appropriately, was Spirit Day with plenty of excitement on campus. Students donned homecoming t-shirts and participated in the traditional Homecoming parade, pep rally, and powder puff game. Weather shortened the parade, but students still gathered on the River Campus to watch the floats go by. During the pep rally in Davis Gym, fifth grade students from the Lower School Whitehurst Campus entertained the crowd, cheerleaders added to the spirit, the faculty took on the senior boys in dodgeball, and the football team and coach Corky Rogers encouraged the students and faculty to cheer the Bulldogs onto victory.

As for the alumni, Homecoming included the reliving of past glories with alumni sports games Thursday through Saturday. Football, basketball, and volleyball alumni played with all the same enthusiasm of their high school days, but maybe at a slightly slower pace. The annual alumni tailgate party was held in Davis Gym and included the Reunion Weekend gathering, bringing together numerous alumni and their families.

The football team gave all Bolles fans plenty to cheer about, but little to doubt, as the Bulldogs defeated district opponent Fernandina Beach 70-21. During halftime, the 2007 Homecoming Sweetheart was crowned as Lauren English accepted the honor. Other students on the Sweetheart Court included Aaron Buckland, Caroline Calhoun, Blair Hakimian, Jordan Hollis, Lilly Lewis, Carly Norton, Peyton Skinner, Jadon Thompson, and Allison Williams.
