Cathy Soud Appointed Member of AP Spanish Committee

Bolles upper school Spanish teacher Cathy Soud has been appointed as a member of the College Board AP Spanish Language Development Committee for the 2008-09 academic year. This is a one-year term of appointment subject to renewal for up to three additional years. The College Board appoints committee members based on their credentials in an effort to make its AP exams appropriate for the students who take them.

As a member of this committee, Soud will meet two to three times a year with other members, discussing the AP exams with teachers of AP courses or interested college faculty. She will also write and review questions and review and revise the AP course description. Soud will also be expected to attend workshops and conferences at the regional, national, and international level that relate to increasing interest in the AP program among educators and professionals in the field.

Soud has worked with the A.P. program for about 20 years, hosting teacher workshops, grading exams, and serving as a question leader in charge of the grading of certain portions of the A.P. Spanish exam. In January 2007, Soud was invited to join a select group of five college and high school Spanish instructors who revised the rubrics, or grading guidelines, for the composition sections of the AP Spanish exam.
