Bolles Students Earn High Marks at Congreso


After months of preparation and coaching from Elvie Machado, Carmen Adair, Cathy Soud, Melissa Tyler, Adriana Stam and Pete Montes, 12 students left Bolles on April 3 and headed to Orlando for the 2008 Conferencia de Español del Estado de la Florida— Congreso!

On the first day, each of the 12 participants performed an impromptu speech, which involves speaking in front of two judges for two minutes continuously on a given topic. A nerve-racking thing to do in English, let alone Spanish! The following morning, a group of the students presented a dramatic performance, Sempronio, a play set in Argentina, while another group presented their declamations on Friday afternoon. Machado and Adair accompanied the group.

For all of the hours of work that these students and their teachers put in, there were very good results, coming in third overall in the state of Florida. A big ¡Enhorabuena! goes to each of the following participants:
