Bolles Holds Boathouse Groundbreaking

A ceremony was held on Monday, August 25, for the groundbreaking of the Peyton Boathouse and Rice Family Crew Complex. Herb Peyton, Charles Rice, Diane Rice, and other members of the Rice family participated in the ceremony, along with President and Head of School John E. Trainer, Jr., Ph.D., and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Jeremy Smith. Also in attendance were Bolles crew head coach Ted Riedeburg, current members and alumni of the Bolles crew program, and their families.
The ceremony began with a procession through an archway of oars held by members of the rowing program. After comments from Trainer, Smith, Peyton, and Dan Rice, ground was officially broken with golden shovels and orange and blue confetti. Don Zentz, Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Bolles, performed the Bolles alma mater on saxophone with the Bolles crew holding up their oars behind him. A reception in Gooding Gallery followed the ceremony.

The Peyton Boathouse and Rice Family Crew Complex will feature 9,600 square feet of enclosed space: two boat bays, a repair area, and cubicles for the students' bags on the first floor; training room, a separate weight room, changing rooms, office, and large multi-purpose room on the second floor. Work on the site has already begun and is expected to be completed in nine months. Bolles selected Peterson Architects to design the boathouse and Dana B. Kenyon Construction Company to build the boathouse and complex. Members of the Dana B. Kenyon Construction Company attended the ceremony as well.
