Bartram Lets it Shine

The outstanding performance of the upper school Symphonic Band in Parker Auditorium was not the only thing that received great applause on Thursday, May 1, on the middle school Bartram Campus.  Following the salute to seniors and the performance of “Ain't No Mountain High Enough,” selected by senior Raphael Johnson, the many guests flowed to the front mall area of the Betsy Lovett Arts Center for a lighting ceremony of the Bartram Campus and reception.

As part of the Bartram Beautification Project, 79 attractive new lantern light posts have been added throughout the campus. This special occasion began with opening remarks about how special the Bartram Campus is to the history of Bolles by President and Head of School John E. Trainer, Jr., Ph.D. Trainer then introduced two special guests, Betsy Lovett '48 Bartram and Helen Lane '42 Bartram. After a countdown, the three officially “flipped the switch” to turn on the lights. Within seconds the entire campus glowed, illuminating the mall, entrance, dorm areas, and walkways throughout the campus. A stroll at night through what was once a dark path now is like a beautifully lit walk through a park. The landscaping is scheduled for completion in mid-May and the lights were an important part of this project.

In order to assist with costs for the overall Beautification Project, the Office of Advancement is offering many donor opportunities throughout the campus including the newly landscaped areas and the posts. The posts may be sponsored and each donor recognized for $2,500 each. Anyone interested in learning more about these and other naming opportunities may contact the Advancement Office at (904) 256-5010.
