Band Festival Results
The Bolles School Symphonic Band, conducted by Don Zentz, and the Bartram Intermediate Band, conducted by Maggie Schaeffer, both received overall outstanding ratings at the Independent Schools Music Festival held on March 13. Bands are adjudicated based on a performance standard of excellence. This year’s judges were Mr. Artie Clifton (Director of Bands – JU), Dr. Dale Blackwell (retired Director of Bands – FCCJ), and Mr. Charlie Propper (U.S. Navy Band Director – retired). After each band’s performance, one of the adjudicators then spends time on stage with the band providing an overview and clinic on the essential assessment points from the performance. Overall, the festival is a highly educational musical event for students, directors, and parents.
The 60-member Upper School Symphonic Band performed Amparito Roco, Cajun Folk Songs, and Toward the Sunrising. The Bartram Intermediate Band performed Champions of Freedom, Yorkshire Ballad, and The Forge of Vulcan.
