2009 Resident Parent Weekend

The Bolles Parent Association hosted Resident Parent Weekend September 30-October 4, welcoming parents of boarding students.  Several parents traveled from around the globe to meet with Bolles resident staff, faculty, and administrators, and, most importantly, their children.

A casual dinner for resident parents, boarding students, and Project Link-up families was held September 30.  Project Link-Up is a Parent Association program in which a Bolles boarding student is “linked up” with a local Bolles family.  Parents were also able to visit the dorm facilities that evening.

On October 1, resident parents participated in a full schedule of activities.  An open forum was held in the morning, including Jack Milne, Associate Head of School for Student Life; Mike Boswell, Director of Boys’ Resident Program; Rhonda Ryan, Director of Girls’ Resident Program; Katie Cussen, Director of Counseling Services, and Brian Helbing, Director of Security.  Following the forum, parents received a tour of the San Jose Campus.

After the campus tour, representatives from both the Parent Association and the Bolles Office of Communications presented important information for parents.  President and Head of School John E. Trainer, Jr. Ph.D. then hosted lunch in the Varn Board Room for the resident parents.

Following lunch, parents met with Scott Smith, Associate Head of School/Academic Dean; Dr. Steve Soud, Director of College Counseling; and Carolyn Smith, Director of the Advisor Program, as the panel discussed their particular areas of expertise with the resident parents.  Parents also participated in a food service panel.

On October 2, the parents of boarders joined parents of day students in participating in Parent Conference Day.  Parents held scheduled conferences with all of their children’s academic teachers and advisors.  The rest of the weekend was left for resident parents to enjoy spending time with their children.
