Book Club April Meeting
Book: The King Must Die, by Mary Renault
Discussion Leader: Louise Ropp, English Department
Bolles Book Club participants had a special treat in April. Mrs. Louise Ropp, who now teaches only 12th grade English but taught 9th grade honors for many years, shared with us one of the books that she used in the ninth grade and also shared her philosophy in using the book in the classroom. The book is a great read, with many levels of meaning. It ties together and extensively references many aspects of Greek mythology and The Iliad and The Odyssey. We also discussed many aspects of the author and how her personal life contributed to her writing. The session was excellent and went far beyond the allotted time because it was so interesting. Thank you, Mrs. Ropp for sharing your time and giving us a sense of the classroom experience our children are fortunate to have.
The Bolles Book Club is open to any Bolles parent who wishes to participate in any session. Selections and discussion leaders are posted on the website each month. Please join us for both exposure to some great reading and getting to know some of our wonderful and talented Bolles teachers.
