Bolles Defeats Episcopal 36-20

By Helene Vickers

Neither a blustery wind nor intermittent rain showers could dampen the determination shown by the Bolles Bulldogs in the teams 36-20 victory over Episcopal Tuesday afternoon, September 18. The Dogs defense came out fired up and forced Episcopal to go three and out on its first series. Bolles offense was equally as motivated as they marched down the field on their first drive of the game which resulted in a seven-yard touchdown run by fullback Hayden Hurst. Another run by Hurst capped the two-point conversion to put the Bulldogs up 8-0 early in the first quarter.

During Episcopal's next series an interception by Jeremy Wannamaker at the Eagle's 41-yard line set up a six play drive culminating in a 23-yard Bulldog touchdown run by quarterback Cam McCurry in the final minutes of the first quarter. The score went to 16-0 after a successful two-point conversion run by Wannamaker.

The Bulldogs capped their first series of the second quarter with another touchdown; this one a 52-yard run by Sam Kelley. The two-point conversion was completed by Rob Kelley to give Bolles a 24-0 lead. The defense stopped a score by Episcopal on its next series after a monster hit by Willie MacDade and a broken pass by Tommy Kelley. The next Bulldog scoring opportunity occurred as McCurry fielded an Eagle punt at the Bolles 45 and ran it in to lift the score to 30-0 with 3:26 left in the half. Excellent defensive play from Alex Ivanov, Will Robertson, Charley Burnette, Drew Steers, Alex Mercer and Alex Hilf ended the first half with no score from Episcopal.

Awesome defensive play by Bolles dominated the first series of the second half including takedowns by Austin Cunkle and Ivanov; an interception by Matt Schou at the Bulldog's 48-yard line with a 25-yard return ended the Eagles opening drive and kept the third quarter scoreless. The Bulldogs final score of the game occurred on a six-yard run by Craig Walker in the fourth quarter.
