LOWER SCHOOL WHITEHURST CAMPUS NEWS
SEPTEMBER 2010
This publication serves as a means of getting School news home to parents. It comes out monthly and includes important dates for you to remember as well as events happening on the Whitehurst Campus.
LOWER SCHOOL FORMS
It is essential that all forms requested in August be returned to the office immediately. These forms are important for general information, health purposes, and in case of an emergency. If one or both parents have cell phones, we would appreciate those numbers also. Since phones are not always reliable, it is very important that we have the name and number of a friend, neighbor, or relative we can contact in the event of an emergency. Thank you for your prompt attention to this detail.
PARKING
Parking is at a premium on the Whitehurst Campus. All lined spaces are assigned to faculty and staff. This includes all spaces in front of Grades 5, 2, 1, Kindergarten, and the Art Building. It also includes spaces in front of the Uible Pool and along the curb by Grade 4 and the lower school office. When you need to visit us, please feel free to use the designated parking area for lower school that is adjacent to the softball field.
OPERATING HOURS
The lower school office is open daily from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Morning Extended Day is available at 7:15 a.m. on the Pre-K playground and on cold or rainy days in the Pre-K building. Students arriving before 8 a.m. should report to Extended Day and not their classroom. We cannot be responsible for children left unattended.

DISMISSAL REQUESTS
To help our dismissals run smoothly, we ask that you remain in your car along the curb, pull as far forward as you can, and your child will be brought to your car by a faculty member.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
- Volunteers are needed to help with our lower school yearbook, Paw Prints. If you are interested in helping, please call the office or Tracy Skinner at 399-3723.
- Moms, dads, grandparents, special friends . . . Library helpers are needed to help classes check out books, shelve books, etc. If you are interested, please contact the Copeland Library or the office.
- The Grounds Committee, under the leadership of Thao McGrane, can always use your help! Planting annuals, decorating for the fall, etc. . . . just give the office a call to volunteer!
CHINA
During the 2010-11 school year, students will be exposed to the art, culture, and literature of China. Our “celebration” will begin the week of September 20 with students enjoying an art enrichment lesson, producing a Chinese-influenced art project and being exposed to Chinese literature and customs during library classes. All aboard as our journey begins . . .
RESPECT, RESPONSBILITY, FRIENDSHIP
During the month of September, faculty and students will focus on the character traits of respect, responsibility and friendship. Students will be taught in basic moral, social and intellectual values that are universal and reflect the Bolles overall mission statement. Students will develop critical thinking and cooperative learning skills, taught to support service-learning, and to establish a common values vocabulary that fosters communication among all members of our community. This is known as “The Bolles Way.”
SHOW YOUR SCHOOL SPIRIT!
On selected Fridays, lower school students are asked to show their School spirit by wearing orange and blue - our School colors. If a student wears a Bolles shirt or orange and blue to help promote school spirit, then he or she may wear jeans to school. Visit our Campus Store (open daily from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.) for a large selection of Bolles t-shirts and apparel. Go Bulldogs!
