MARCH 2010 NEWSLETTER

Tips for Kids Many thanks for your generous support of our February faculty community service project.  Once again we were the leading team at Bogey Grille as we raised $2,042 for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of St. Johns County.  Teresa Andrews, Director of Big Brothers/Big Sisters attended a recent Friday assembly and thanked all the families and faculty for their support.  For those of you that plan ahead we will be there again next year on Tuesday, February 8, 2011.

Farmers Market
Our Farmers Market returns to Campus on Friday, March 19, from Noon – 3 p.m.  A wide variety of fresh produce will be available.  Fifth graders will host a bake sale at the market.  Entertainment will be provided by the band Steel in Motion.  A more detailed class visiting schedule will be sent home soon.  Many thanks to Suzanne Whelan and her team of volunteers for organizing this event.

Fifth Grade Mentors
One of the events our fifth graders look forward to every year is the day-long visit from upper school mentors.  Discussion groups are held and games are played as the children discuss peer pressure, middle school life, friends, substance abuse, and other issues. The upper school students have been training for this interaction with Ms. Katie Cussen, Director of Guidance and Counseling.  Mentors will join Fifth Grade for the day on March 24.

Pennies for Patients

On Monday, March 8, and continuing through Friday, March 19, students will be collecting pennies for patients.  Their fund raising efforts will support the North Florida Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  This group actively helps with any needs of patients from transportation, to medication, to housing, to bill paying.  The Society in the past has reached out to neighbors and School families as well.  We encourage you to share the purpose of this event with your children.  Small, appropriate jobs around the house are a great way for the children to contribute.  Your participation is encouraged as well.
