College Counseling 401
Location: McGehee Auditorium
We are excited to announce a special evening program, College Counseling 401: Tips for a Smooth Transition to College, that will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the McGehee Auditorium of the San Jose Campus on Wednesday night, April 2. All seniors and their parents are invited to attend.
Our speaker for the evening will be Pamela Horne, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions at Purdue University. Having worked in college admissions for some two decades, and having parented two daughters through the college transition herself, Ms. Horne has insights that can aid both students and parents as they prepare for this important stage in a family’s life. Among the topics that she may touch upon are the following:
- Parent-student communication
- Time management
- Apartments vs. dorms
- Helping students manage personal finances
- Staying focused when surrounded by distractions
- Adjusting to a new roommate
- Ways to get integrated into the campus community
- The transition for the whole family
Whether your senior will be the first child in the family to attend college or the fourth, whether they will be attending a large state university or a small private college, our program will help prepare you for the joys and heartaches that accompany a young person’s leaving for college.
We hope that you will make every effort to join us for this event. Ms. Horne has a reputation for being an engaging, down-to-earth speaker, and we know that she will offer an amusing, informative look at the transition to college.
